The Peñón Neighbourhood and the Cave House

Casas cueva ofrecen un ambiente constante de 18ºC, ideales para disfrutar de frescura en verano y calidez en invierno, atrayendo a turistas por su singularidad.

This neighbourhood takes its name from the large rock located here, which formed part of the castle’s walled enclosure. Many of the houses in the Barrio del Peñón neighbourhood are built into the cliff face where the Arab fortress once stood.
Cave dwellings are common in the municipality of Iznájar. Many of these troglodyte structures date back to the Neolithic period.

The interior of these unique dwellings was divided into various rooms carved out of the rock, the number of which increased as the family living there grew. The great advantage of this type of construction lies in its temperature, which remains constant all year round at around 18°C, meaning its inhabitants enjoy a warm environment in winter and a cool one in summer.
