Hermitage of Saint Anne

Hermitage of Saint Anne

Pequeña construcción histórica con retablos de 1770, destacando imágenes de santos y una devota Virgen procesionada anualmente.

It is a small building of vernacular character, whose origins, according to María Ángeles Raya, date back to 1583, the year in which a licence was granted for its construction. From the outset, it has been dedicated to Saint Anne, who is the town’s co-patron saint alongside the Virgin of the Castle. Its only entrance consists of a low arched doorway and a small bell gable constructed of brick in a horseshoe pattern. The interior consists of a small nave measuring 6 x 4 metres, covered by a lowered barrel vault. The chancel features a wooden altarpiece, by an unknown artist, created in 1770, according to a dated inscription on its base, which displays the image of Saint Anne, dating from the same year as the altarpiece. In the side aisles are Saint Joachim and Saint John the Baptist.

In another altarpiece in the side chapel, we can see a unique carving of Saint Francis of Assisi. Finally, theimage of the Virgin of the Dawn is particularly noteworthy; she is the object of great devotion in the village and is carried in procession every year as the patron saint of the local festivities.
