“Antonio Povedano” Centre for Contemporary Spanish Landscape Art
The “Antonio Povedano” Centre for Contemporary Spanish Landscape Art was established in 1996 by Priego Town Council in honour of Antonio Povedano, who had, years earlier, spearheaded the activities of the “Free School of Fine Arts of Priego de Córdoba”.
It is dedicated exclusively to the “landscape” genre and presents different ways of viewing and interpreting the landscape through the work of some of Spain’s leading specialists in this field.
The figurative trend is represented by the realism of Amalia Avia or José Lapayese, the magical sensibility of José Hernández, or the expressive and colourful reinterpretation of Agustín Redondela, Vaquero Palacios, Manuel Capdevila and Agustín Úbeda, amongst others. The works of painters such as José Abad, Molina Montero, Antonio Suárez and José Vento, on the other hand, lean towards abstraction.
The Centre organises exhibitions and lecture series on Art, Landscape and Tourism. The second phase of this Centre is currently being prepared; its monographic theme makes it unique in Spain.
The galleries occupied by the Antonio Povedano Centre for Contemporary Spanish Landscape Art were designed and built under the direction of architect Javier Calvo Pozo.
