Nature in Iznájar

Embalse andaluz con más de 100 km de orilla, ideal para actividades acuáticas y turismo rural, abastece agua a 200,000 personas.

The Genil, the main tributary of the Guadalquivir River, forms the largest reservoir in Andalusia at Iznájar. It covers areas in the provinces of Córdoba, Málaga and Granada; its capacity exceeds 950 million cubic metres; it has over 100 kilometres of shoreline and is 32 kilometres long, running parallel across the central part of the municipal area.

Opened on 3 June 1969, it belongs to the Guadalquivir River Basin Authority. It serves as a defence against flooding from the Genil for Puente Genil, Éija and other riverside towns, and supplies water for domestic use to a population of around 200,000 people.
