The trail takes us along a route offering breathtaking views of the Sierras Subbéticas and the Guadalquivir Valley basin, to one of the most historic and legendary caves in the world.
Once again I was ordered to plunge down into the Cabra chasm—an unheard-of and terrifying peril—and to bring back a detailed account of what lies within that dark abyss. Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote.
Starting with an initial stretch dominated by olive groves, further on the natural vegetation appears, comprising holm oaks, hawthorns, wild olive trees, mastic trees and impressive centuries-old gall oaks.
Along the route, we can easily spot peregrine falcons, choughs, jackdaws, kestrels, griffon vultures and a multitude of insectivores, as well as rabbits and hares.
Next to the mouth of the Sima de Cabra, there is a sign describing the cave with information and a photograph of its interior. We recommend that you do not go beyond this point, as there is a danger of a 116-metre drop.
