Picacho – The Sierra de Cabra mountain range

Ofrece vistas impresionantes, formaciones geológicas únicas y avistamiento de buitres leonados, siendo un geoparque protegido por la Unesco.

El Picacho is regarded as the ‘Balcony of Andalusia’; on clear days, one can see not only the most prominent peaks of the Subbética range but also the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The Sierra de Cabra offers fascinating geological formations such as the Lapiaz de los Lanchares. The Sierra de Cabra massif is regarded as one of the natural wonders of the province of Córdoba and the region of Andalusia. It has been designated a geopark by UNESCO and is under its protection. The massif contains one of the greatest concentrations of Andalusia’s geodiversity within just three thousand hectares. The limestone sediments deposited between two hundred million and twenty-five million years ago have been compressed, deformed, fractured and exposed in a slow process.

Subsequently, climatic conditions have shaped the current landscape, turning it into a kind of book in which the memory of the earth can be read. In the vicinity of the Lobatejo and Abuchite peaks, the flights of the griffon vulture will take centre stage alongside the wheatears.
