Old Church

Portada barroca y hornacina con Cristo tallado en piedra destacan en este auditorio al aire libre, sede de eventos culturales veraniegos.

The Old Church is situated just outside the castle walls and offers one of the most beautiful views of the old town of Doña Mencía. It was built in 1420 and subsequently extended between 1737 and 1742 by the Dominican community that lived in the adjoining convent. Built in the Baroque style, it was destroyed in a fire in 1932, and the site was converted into an ‘Open-Air Auditorium’ in 2000. This is where cultural events are held during the summer months. Today, the façade and the niche attached to the bell tower remain, where a stone carving of Christ on the cross can be seen.
