Since 1876, what is now known as “Hijo de Rafael Reyes, SA” has been a spirits producer based in the town of Rute, in the province of Córdoba. Now in its fifth generation, the company remains as committed to the motto “the best or nothing” as it was when its great-great-grandfather, Rafael Reyes Rodriguez, founded the business. 

Its flagship product is the extra-dry, double-distilled Anís Machaquito. It also produces sweet aniseed liqueur, triple-distilled extra-dry aniseed liqueur and various other liqueurs such as coffee and sour cherry liqueurs.

Distillation in copper stills, fuelled by olive wood, remains the method used to produce their aniseed spirits; although the latest technology and the most efficient methods are employed in the other stages of production.

At Machaquito, the best way to discover the product and the entire production process is through smell, sight and taste. They offer free self-guided and guided tours, as well as a tasting session. The guided tour takes you through the main areas of the company, explaining the entire aniseed distillation process, as well as the different liqueurs they produce.
