Aniseed Museum
Housed in a century-old distillery, it offers visitors a sensory journey through the history and tradition of aniseed-flavoured spirits and liqueurs. In the first room, visitors will find copper stills crafted by local artist and master coppersmith Francisco Casas, where they are shown how this delicious elixir is made. The Maceration Room contains a collection of glazed earthenware jars where various fruits, herbs and seeds were macerated to produce the most classic liqueurs of the Duende Distilleries (rosolí, mint, sour cherries, pacharán, etc.). Its display cases showcase the history of over a hundred distilleries named after bullfighters, literary figures and animals. From pure grape spirits to the aniseed-flavoured liqueurs that have existed in our town from the 17th century to the present day. In the Women’s Room, the promotion of female figures in the marketing of the various products is highlighted. Famous cuplet singers, female bullfighters and ladies who celebrate their legacy deserve special attention, alongside bottles used for royal banquets and those used in donkey christenings by various famous figures. Finally, in the Tasting Room, we’ll enjoy surprising flavours and aromas of cinnamon, lemon verbena, aniseed...
The full guided tour of Destilerías Duende is particularly interesting; starting from an ageing cellar for brandy and punch, we can admire a collection of American oak barrels, old offices, bullfighting posters and a myriad of tools for work in the cellar and daily life in the rural world of the 19th and 20th centuries. We will continue through the Patio, a true gem of Cordoba’s traditional architecture and winner of the First Prize in the Cordoba Province Patio Competition for two consecutive years. Here, we will stroll through its various rooms—including the old slaughterhouse kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms—amidst an impressive collection of geraniums, aromatic plants, lemon trees and fountains that refresh visitors and fill the air with music. It is an ideal place to enjoy an aperitif (by prior arrangement for groups only). The tour continues with explanations, anecdotes and interesting facts as we move through the various rooms of the museum, concluding with a comprehensive tasting of the different spirits, infusions and aged liquors that are carefully crafted and nurtured in this living space of Ruta’s history.
