El Tarajal

El Tarajal

Villages with historic fortifications, unique shrubbery and a traditional washing place offer tourists an authentic cultural experience in August.

Between this village and the surrounding area lies a fortification known as the “Torre de Barcas”. El Tarajal established itself as a town in the 19th century, having developed from the highest point of the hill where the settlement was originally located. Its name refers to the abundance of taraj trees, a shrub typical of the surrounding landscape. Its traditional wash house is also a notable feature. Its local festivities are held in August.
